Oppo Working on ‘Apple Watch’ Competitor

Oppo Working on ‘Apple Watch’ Competitor
The Silicon Review
28 January, 2020

Oppo is set to enter the smartwatch segment with its first watch launching sometime in the first quarter of 2020. The big news is that it will feature ECG functionality. Oppo’s first smartwatch ever will have the ability to measure an electrocardiogram (ECG) measurement. While this is Oppo’s first smartwatch, Apple Watch Series 4 was the first smartwatch ever to have the ECG measurement feature. The issues with most of the watches that have an in-built ECG feature like the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 and Withings Move ECG is that they still haven’t been cleared by the local authorities. This is one of the reasons why Samsung has disabled the ECG feature support on the Galaxy Watch Active 2 and is waiting for FDA clearance. Oppo is bound to face the same issue with their upcoming smartwatch.

However, the good news is that people interested in the Oppo Smartwatch do not have to wait for too long for it. Brain Shen, Oppo VP, announced last year that the smartwatch would have a rectangular dial. An exact date for the release of the smartwatch has not been revealed but it is expected to be launched alongside the global debut of the Find X2 flagship phone.   A complete set of details are expected to be shared by Oppo at the MWC 2020.
