Las Vegas considers a proposal from Elon Musk’s Boring Company
The Silicon Review
07 March, 2019

The city of Las Vegas might soon be the scene of an ambitious project undertaken by The Boring Company. Founded by Elon Musk in 2016, the Boring Company may have bagged a contract to build an underground tunnel to move people across the convention center in the city. The Las Vegas’ Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) is considering a plan submitted by the Boring Company to improve transportation and connectivity within the campus of the convention center, which is undergoing expansion to encompass over 200 acres of land. After completion, the campus would be so big that visitors would have to walk more than two miles to get from one end to the other. The expansion is set to be completed with the means of transportation implemented by early 2021.

The Las Vegas convention center regularly hosts various mega events and draws over a million visitors each year. The expansion is being undertaken to make it a preferred destination for hosting large scale conferences and meetups. With a convenient transit system in place, the city of Las Vegas could definitely add to its already booming tourism industry.

One of the reasons why the proposal from Boring Company is being considered is the nature of its solution. While other competitors vying for the contract have proposed trams, monorails and gondolas, the Boring Company’s method would not pose any hurdles to the ongoing construction on the ground level, since its plan involves an underground transit system of electric vehicles to ferry visitors from one end to another.

If approved, this project could prove to be watershed for the Boring Company.
