Adobe Introduces a New Feature for Lightroom CC

Adobe Introduces a New Feature for Lightroom CC
The Silicon Review
13 Febuary, 2019

Software makers, Adobe Inc has rolled out a new feature for its photo-editing apps. The announcement was made public on Tuesday.

Dubbed as Enhanced Details, the ML-based feature is designed to enhance the overall picture quality of zoomed-in images artificially.

Enhanced Details will be available in the following platforms: Lightroom CC for Windows and MAC, Lightroom Classic CC, and Adobe Camera RAW. According to the company, the new tool can increase the resolution of some images by upto 30 percent. But, the actual image quality maybe not as striking as that figure might make someone think.

The mechanism of the ML-based tool works under a process known as “demosaicing.” It is an algorithmic step which takes place during the creation of a digital image, where the initial monochrome file is made colorful by the camera. Since it is a little complex to run the process, different companies and camera makers have their own special methods to run it.

The new feature was created by deep learning methods where it trained a demosaicing algorithm on a huge dataset of more than one billion sample images. The program learned to add color to an image through this data where there was a slight improvement in picture quality.

Moreover, if any user wants to use the new tool then they must have a PC with macOS 10.13 or Windows 10 version 1809 or later. They have to use the RAW image format. For more details about the new launch, users can visit the company’s blog post.
