Samsung unveils the World’s first ever one-terabyte (TB) Chip for Smartphones

Samsung plans to launch the world’s first ever one-terabyte (TB) chip for smartphones.

The announcement was made public on Wednesday. The chips are still in its development process and once they are ready, smartphone manufacturers across the world will be able to use the 1TB single flash memory chip on their devices.

The size of the new 1TB chip is (11.5mm x 13.0mm) and boosts the capacity of the older 512GB version with its 16 stacked layers of the company’s most cutting-edge flash memory,"V-NAND" and a latest proprietary controller.

The data transferring speed of the chip is exceptional, enabling the users to transfer large multimedia files very quickly. With a transferring speed upto 1,000 megabytes per second (MB/s), the chip possesses the sequential read speed of a 2.5-inch SATA solid state drive (SSD).

As per Samsung, the 1TB eUFS (embedded Universal Flash Storage) will have the capability to store 260 10-minute videos in 4K UHD format, while the smartphones which haveaninternal storage capacity of 64GB can store 13 videos of the same size.

The company is ready to showcase its Next-Gen premium Galaxy S10 in the US in February. The smartphone may be equipped with 1TB internal storage. Apart from that, Samsung intends to expand the manufacturing of its Fifth Gen 512GB "V-NAND" chip to fulfill the increasing demand from the consumers.

According to Cheol Choi, Executive VP of Memory Sales and Marketing at Samsung Electronics, the new chip will possibly provide a notebook like an experience in the next-gen smartphones.
