Apple’s Self-Driving Car Caught in an Accident Due To Human Mistake

For the first time ever, Apple’s self-driving car was crashed by a human driver last week. According to reports by the Verge, on August 24th, the tech giant’s self-driving Lexus SUVs has damaged a human operated Nissan leaf in Sunnyvale. There were no causalities but the self-driving cars were damaged.

With less than a speed of 1mph, the self-driving SUVs were heading towards Lawrence Expressway and the Nissan was being driven at 15mph at the time of the crash. As compared to the Nissan, the self-driving was cruising at a very low speed, and due to sparse reports, it’s not sure whether the speed was suitable or not. The only information that is collected from the vehicle was “waiting for a safe gap to complete the merge” when it was crashed.

Apple reportedly started working on the self-driving vehicles program in 2014. The company has produced less than 12 self-driving cars till now, and it’s nearly impossible one of them would be involved in some kind of accident.

The latest data reports reveal that operating a driverless car is much safer than the cars with drivers. But global leaders like Apple, Uber, and Tesla are ready to launch driver-less cars into full-scale production just yet. Until 2023, Apple has no plans of rolling out the self-driving car project to the public.

It will be interesting to watch how these big companies will capture the driver-less car market in the future.
