Indian ride-hailing firm, Ola has decided to add 10,000 electric three-wheelers to its fleet over the next 12 months, as part of a plan to promote the use of electric vehicles. To meet the targets, Ola has got plans to deploy 1 million electric vehicles on offer by 2021, adding that it will work with various state governments, vehicle manufactures, and battery companies.

Currently operating in 110 Indian cities and with over a million driver partners, Ola has not revealed the name of the cities where the three-wheelers would be introduced. Furthermore, the company also didn’t mention anything about the manufacturers, which is going to deliver the three-wheelers, and whether it would be the company making the purchases or the vehicles would be driver-owned. It also did not provide any details when it is going to introduce the electric cars.

To deploy electric three-wheelers, the Bangalore-based company stated that it will carry out discussions with several state governments to create an appropriate policy for the environment.

“Three-wheelers are a vital means of transportation and a source of livelihood for millions of people every day. It also represents an immediate opportunity to improve outcomes for all stakeholders while reducing pollution across towns and cities,” said Bhavish Aggarwal, Co-Founder, and CEO of Ola.
