Google Offers Fund to Universities for AI Research
The Silicon Review
05 November, 2018

Tech giant Google is offering funds to universities and various non-profit organizations to carryout research by utilizing AI and other technology to tackle problems. The total amount of the funding is $25M.

The company launched Google Impact AI challenge on Monday. It will provide help and coaching experts at Google. According to Jacquelline Fuller, VP of Google, the company seeks to invest in the best ideas globally. Google is open to many fields, which includes humanities, like art and archaeology and is accepting projects that could have environmental and social impacts.

A great example, the tech giant has assisted many people by carrying out projects like flood forecasting. A new project was created to prevent child sex trafficking because there are a lot of victims who are advertised online. The tool will help the law enforcement system to share digital information.

AI has the potential to help in such cases. The algorithm can pinpoint the exact possible location of the abduction or prove signals towards a possible child being trafficked.

Google is unifying those efforts and calling it AI for Social Good, and it launched the six-month Impact Challenge on Monday, issuing a call for research partners around the world.

The proposals for the AI challenge can be submitted by the students and the professors working in non-profit organizations. It is not necessary that the participants should be specialized in AI, including if the ideas are in the early stages of development.

The winners of the contest will be released by Spring.
